The ancient tradition of donating Japanese cedar saplings as a way of giving thanks for the fulfillment of prayers is proof of the enduring relationship between the people and the mountain, as well as the mountain’s importance. This tradition is a key aspect of the faith in Mt. Takao. The stone monuments that can be found throughout the mountain, together with the cedar sapling dedication boards on the approach to the temple, tell the story of the spread of the faith of Yakuoin Temple.
