The Story of Mulberry City Hachioji Hometown cuisine

SOTO local cuisine

School lunches in Hachioji City offer ‘Kuwato-Hachioji hometown cuisine’ using locally produced ingredients, such as ‘katameshi’, which has been handed down from long ago, ‘Kuwato-yaki’ using mulberry leaves associated with the area and ‘silken soup’ using somen noodles as silk threads, to convey to children the history, culture and traditions of Kuwato-Hachioji and its local charms, while The restaurant has fostered attachment to the region.
These efforts bore fruit, and in March 2024, it was recognised as a ‘100-year food’ by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
