The 6th graders of Hachioji Sanda Elementary School have been continuously experiencing and presenting the traditional Hachioji art of kuruma ningyo (cart puppetry) during their comprehensive learning time. This year, under the theme "Kuruma Ningyo × The Story of Mulberry City," the students conducted research on areas of interest from four stories related to The Story of Mulberry City. They invited guest teachers to understand the thoughts and hopes of those involved in traditional arts. The students expressed their learning through Hachioji kuruma ningyo.
Finally
"Inheriting traditional performing arts" means engaging with, talking about, and spreading the culture of Hachioji that I love. This learning experience has become a step towards inheriting the thoughts and wishes of those involved with The Story of Mulberry City that the children learned about.
