Yakuoin Temple distributed talismans to protect silkworms from rats, gaining the faith of silkworm farmers.
The local publication Musashi Meisho Zue (“Collection of Scenic Sites of Musashi”), compiled in 1823 by Ueda Moshin, a leader of the Sennin Doshin (a group of 1,000 samurais who protected the Tokugawa family), also contains a description of the rat-repelling talisman called Nezumi Kuchidome Hifu.
