The origins of Hachioji Textiles are said to date back to around the time they were traded in the castle town of Takiyama, and they have been refined and improved over their course of their more than 400-year history. Traditional textiles woven in the area centered around Hachioji were designated a national traditional craft in 1980 under the name Tamaori (Tama woven fabrics).
The Hachioji Textile Trade Center hosts exhibitions and sales events, as well as activities that provide an opportunity to experience weaving.
