This historic path of the Silk Road, once traveled by merchants trading raw silk, is surrounded by dense trees and exudes a mysterious atmosphere.
While walking toward the Silk Road Museum, various cultural assets come into view.
These include the Silk Road Monument in Otsukayama Park and an unpaved section preserving traces of the past, which has been recognized as one of Japan’s 100 Historic Roads .

The Silk Road Museum stands on the former residence of silk merchant Yagishita Yoemon, where part of the residence’s impressive stone walls has been restored.
The garden features restored remnants, including a drainage ditch and an Ijinkan (“Western-style residence”), now open to the public. Inside the exhibition rooms, there are displays related to the Silk Road, silk production, and silkworm cultivation.
The museum also offers a rest area for those walking along the Silk Road, a designated Historic Site of Hachioji.
