The practice of waterfall asceticism is linked to the worship of waterfalls that originated from mountain faith. The Jyataki and Biwa Waterfalls are used as cold-water ablution sites of Yakuoin Temple. Even today, practitioners of Shugendo still perform waterfall asceticism, and members of the general public can also try it out throughout the year.
