The Hachioji Castle Ruins, a national historic site, is a historical site where the remains of a garden and numerous ship's cargoes have been excavated. After enjoying the ruins of Hachioji Castle, visitors will head to the central city area where the Hachioji Shuku was located to learn about the past and present changes in Hachioji. It is a deep route that is perfect for history lovers.

Take a walk around Hachioji Castle Ruins
Explore the site of the lord’s residence with a free tour provided by a volunteer guide! Hiking boots are a must!
Hachioji Castle is one of only two castle ruins in Tokyo included in Japan’s top 100 castles, alongside Edo Castle.
The mountain where Hachioji Castle is located is also the grounds of Hachioji-Jinja Shinto Shrine, and it is marked by a torii gate at the entrance. As the path is almost entirely a mountain trail, hiking boots are essential. The shrine itself is located near the top, around 90% up the mountain. A viewing platform at the summit offers a stunning view of the entirety of Tokyo.

Visit Ichimori Otori-Jinja Shinto Shrine
Ichimori Otori-Jinja Shinto Shrine, or Ichimori-Jinja for short, was established as the guardian deity of the market held on days ending in 4 or 8 of each month. This market emerged when the castle town of Hachioji Castle, which fell in 1590, was relocated, and the new Hachioji-shuku was built.
Every November, the Tori no Ichi Open-Air Market (Bird Day Fair) is held here, drawing a large number of visitors. -
